Let us bow our heads -- and write

Art from Ashes, Denver's great home for creative writing and poetry, teams up with Fresh City Life each month for our WordShop series!

Consider one of our writing workshops to get you involved in the arts. They're two-night events and you have a chance to learn new writing prompts and explore your own ideas around a theme each month. Check out these upcoming workshops and grab your composition book.

Ghosts in the Attic

Personal writing can be a wonderful tool for conjuring your own ghosts. Use your writing to revisit happy memories and the ghosts of a lifetime of experience. Or summon all your strengths to encourage your “demons” to move on. In this WordShop, explore the ever-present human choices between confidence and fear: since you can be either bold or fearful, what ‘ghosts’ are preventing you from choosing boldness? Tuesdays, October 4 and 11, 6-7:30p, Fresh City Lounge. Registration open now.

Life is a Banquet
As an antidote to the hustle and bustle of the holidays, take some time out to reflect on the small and big things in life for which you’re thankful. Your Art from Ashes instructors will guide you through writing prompts that encourage you to acknowledge the good in your life. In the 1954 film Auntie Mame, the title character declares, “Life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death.” Close out your year with gratitude and a promise to yourself that the new year will be for enjoying the banquet! Tuesdays, November 8 and 22, 6-7:30p, Fresh City Lounge. Registration opens October 25.
