Callooh! Callay! Poetry Month Begins Today!

Poetry is a thing of great beauty and April, when the crocuses bloom and violets peek out their heads, is the perfect month to celebrate it.

National Poetry Month encourages all people to experience poetry. Be it by reading a new book of poetry, spouting memorized lines on the street corner, carrying a poem in your pocket, or attending a poetry reading you have a whole month in which to accomplish this goal.

There are many events in and around Denver to participate in Poetry Month, the Mercury Cafe has twice weekly readings, Westword has a list of spoken word events or poetry open mics.

The Kirkland Museum is hosting their 3rd annual evening of Ekphrastic Poetry on Wednesday April 6th.

Also, don't forget to come in and browse your branch's 811s, 821s for incredible books of American and English Poetry. There are also great books of German, Spanish, French, Italian, Persian, Chinese and Japanese poetical works just ask your friendly librarian for assistance!
