Noteworthy Books Written by Celebrities

While still a rookie NBA player in the late 1960s, basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar began reading Sherlock Holmes novels while on the road. During a 2015 interview with Parade Magazine, he noted, "Being black in the 1960s and 1970s was especially perilous. Because prejudice is built on misinformation and faulty thinking, I naturally appreciated Holmes’ insistence on logic and facts as the wisest means to form opinions. If we all thought like Holmes, I reasoned, the world would be free of prejudice."

Nearly 50 years later, Abdul-Jabbar published his 11th book, Mycroft Holmes, which is the untold story of Sherlock's older, more-humane brother.
