Expanded hours give customers additional access
We’ve got exciting news! Soon the Montbello and Ross-University Hills Branch Libraries will increase hours to better serve customers in northeast and southeast Denver.
The Montbello Branch Library, located at 12955 Albrook Drive in northeast Denver, will increase from 48 to 52 hours per week to provide services, programs and computer access to a greater number of Montbello families. The additional evening hours are convenient for youth, who are out of school and parents who are home from work.
“Doubling the evening hours will result in more intergenerational programs and classes for new immigrant families, STEM learning labs for youth and technology access and training for all ages,” said Neighborhood Services Director Susan Kortoba.
The Montbello branch serves a population of 33,135 residents in northeast Denver. The closest branch library is six miles away.
The Ross-University Hills Branch Library, located at 4310 E. Amherst Ave., will also increase from 48 to 52 hours per week to provide more services, programs and access to library resources to a greater number of seniors and families with young children. The branch serves a population of 43,057 residents including University, University Park, University Hills and Wellshire neighborhoods. Half of the households in the service area are families with children and over 28 percent of the population is 55 years and older. Based on current and historical branch usage patterns, more weekday morning hours are needed to serve seniors and families with small children.
Branch service hours are based on physical capabilities, dispersing access geographically and neighborhood population data. Hours at both the Montbello and Ross-University Hills Branch Libraries were adjusted to be in alignment with similar size branch libraries offering access to collections, services, technology and programs 52 hours per week.
