The Denver Public Library owns the BBC and the Hollywood versions of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy films and gobs and gobs of Doctor Who, though my favorite Doctor Who of all is David Tennant. Who is your favorite Doctor Who?
The best Doctors (From greatest to less great)
1. Tom Baker
2. Jon Pertwee
3. Patrick Troughton
4. Peter Davidson
5. Sylvester McCoy
6. Colin Baker
Sorry, I'm not a fan of the new Doctor Who's at all. It's painful to watch how they've butchered the character to make his accessable to today's viewers.
And the 1-hour format rushes the story from what I'm used to. It was a pleasure watching the complete 2-hour meshed stories on Sunday mornings. The stories were just classic sci-fi. They weren't fluffed with pop dialogue and 'youth-centric' attitudes.
Guess I'm of the old-values; I think age isn't at all unattractive and can actually be indicative of more desireable qualities in a person, such as wisdom, forebearance and patience. Its a shame this isn't emphasized more today so kid's generally have even less respect for age and less desire to emulate the wisdom of older people.
P.S. The Doctor being interested in one of his Companions and actually *kissing* them or harboring other interests?! Heresy!!
I appreciate your perspective! I'm more than a little ashamed to say that I didn't know about Doctor Who until I moved to Denver almost 10 years ago.
There are many "reboots" or new versions of old things that I agree lose much in the translation. I have no doubt that if I had the same history with the series that you have, I would have some of the same shock and dismay.
The new series has brought me around to watching the older ones, but you never forget your first Doctor, I guess. ;)
Thanks for your interesting and enlightening comment!
