Gadbaw and Krimmel are known for their rich harmonies, intricate rhythms and a beautiful balance between harp and percussion. Described by Colorado Public Radio as “stunning,” the duo perform original, traditional and art pieces that hint at ancient Irish roots – ranging from Gaelic tunes and sea shanties to Yeats poetry set to ethereal Celtic harp accompaniment.

Join classical guitarist James Cline and oboist Tenly Williams for a performance evocative of the Alps! Enjoy music by French composer Napoleon Coste and Italian virtuoso guitarist Mauro Giuliani. Tenly and James have been presenting music for the unique combination of oboe and guitar for more than a decade, and are thrilled to present these 19th century masterpieces for our Denver Public Library audience.

Making an afghan a square at a time can be a fun and portable way to grow a project. And if the finishing work is the reason you’d never attempt such a thing, this ongoing project will help you through all your finishing hurdles, too! This yearlong Madame Defarge Knit Along can be started anytime – just drop in on Monday night to pick up the pattern and get some coaching from our resident expert, Janny Potter. Janny teaches the basics of an afghan pattern that resembles traditional quilted squares.

This May’s intermediate knitting workshop is a mélange. Talented knitting and crochet instructor, Janny Potter will be on hand to assist with any advanced-beginning and intermediate questions and technique lessons. Students working on our yearlong Log Cabin Afghan (see below) may drop in for knitting help and encouragement. Knitters and crocheters with other projects at hand are encouraged to bring them in for any assistance in restarting or finishing their UFOs (UnFinished Objects) Registration is not required for May intermediate workshop.

On the eve of Denver’s Comic Con 2015, Denver Public Library is hosting comedy writer and actor Martin Olson. His dark and hilarious send up of the underworld, The Encyclopaedia of Hell, is matched only by his brilliant The Adventure Time Encyclopaedia. The latter is written by his alter ego, Hunson Abadeer, aka The Lord of Evil, aka The Nameless One. And both books are careening toward cult status. The Encyclopaedia of Hell has been optioned for a film and The Adventure Time Encyclopaedia hit the number five spot on the New York Times bestseller list.

Every Monday evening the Fresh City Lounge is open for freestyle stitchers to come in and enjoy the company of other knitters.
We also accept walk-in students who'd like to learn how to knit or crochet. Our teacher will host up to six beginning students in either discipline, first-come, first-served. No materials or tools or registration needed for this introductory workshop and students are welcome to return on successive Monday nights until they are 'freestyling,' too!
