Looking for a gift for the new graduate in your life? While cold hard cash is useful, books make great gifts! Whether you are looking for something inspirational or practical to give, books are always the right size!
The Fresh City Life My Branch Colorado Authors Series presents Carol Berg at Schlessman on Sunday, May 22, at 2:00 p.m.
Carol Berg is a former software engineer who can't quite believe her own story. Since her 2000 debut, she's been flown to Israel, taught writing in the U.S., Canada, and Scotland, and answered mail from New Zealand, Kuwait, the slopes of Denali, and beneath the Mediterranean Sea.
As a new librarian I wondered which customers I should offer large print to. I didn’t want to offend anyone. My question was answered soon after I started working when a young woman who appeared to be in her 20’s needed large print books to run on her treadmill and read. For almost 10 years, I’ve asked customers if they needed large print. If you need additional large print books the Colorado Talking Book Library may be able to help. We have children books in large print too.
The 2011 James Beard Book Awards were recently announced. You may know of the James Beard Awards for chefs. While often those award winners are far away (with restaurants hard to get reservations at!), many of the cookbook award winners are available in the library. For a complete list of winners and nominees, click here.
The Denver Public Library is proud to be partnering with KWGN Channel 2 and other area libraries to facilitate the Everyday Book Club. The Everyday Book Club Selection for April was The Paris Wife by Paula McLain. Book club segments air on Mondays during the Everyday show’s 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. broadcast.

Sandra visits the Central Library for serendipitous browsing: scouting new authors and reigniting intellectual passions.
Sandra enjoys wandering the stacks at the Central Library on Sundays when her neighborhood branch library is closed and parking is free at the downtown meters. "If anyone ever asks me the most valuable item in my purse," says Sandra, "It's my library card."
Cycling. The sport of professional cycling is one of the most unique, bizarre and passionate sports viewed and participated in worldwide.
Two days ago, pro-cyclist Wouter Weylandt from Belgium, age 26, died on a descent just 12.4 miles from the finish line during the Giro D'Italia pro-cycling tour of Italy.
The sport of professional cycling yields danger each day as cyclists bike up to 244 kilometers (+) or 155 miles per day for up to three weeks straight, with perhaps a two or three day break the entire time.
This time around our travels take us to the darker side of the city.
Are you ready for the seamier side of your favorite city? The Akashic Books city noir series combines two of my favorite things: noir mysteries and great cities. Each anthology features original stories (by authors such as Lawrence Block, Stewart O'Nan, Pete Hamill and Michael Connelly) set in a "distinct neighborhood or location within the city."
