Youth One Book, One Denver 2014
Youth One Book, One Denver is a program to get kids aged 9-12 to all read the same book this summer!
This year's winner? Savvy by Ingrid Law.
Mibs is about to turn thirteen. Not only is it the year she becomes a teenager, but she will also get her savvy. One brother can cause hurricanes and the other can mess with electricity. Mibs can’t wait to see what her savvy will be. But before her birthday arrives her dad is in a terrible accident and is in a coma. When the day comes, Mibs thinks her new savvy is something that can save her dad. She finds herself on a secret trip to the hospital on a mysterious old bus with her brothers, the preacher’s kids and a bible salesman. En route, Mibs discovers that she might have been wrong about her savvy, and she’s not very happy about what her real secret power might be.

Alvin Ho: Allergic to Girls, School and Other Scary Things by Lenore Look
Alvin Ho is afraid of everything, he has lists of what scares him, including tunnels, elevators, girls but most of all, he’s afraid of school. In fact, he is so petrified that he doesn’t talk in school, but that is not who he really is. At home, he is a superhero called Firecracker Man and a gentleman in training like his dad. He’s also a great middle brother. He has his own Personal Disaster Kit (PDK for short) stocked with all the things he needs to survive. Sometimes though, you can’t prepare for everything. If you had a PDK, what would you put in it?
The Central Library will close early at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 10 to prepare for the Booklovers Ball. More...
