A Lifetime of Learning Starts at the Library

The weather outside may say ‘summer’ but August means back to school for Denver kids. And the Denver Public Library is the perfect back-to-school companion for kids and caregivers alike. We place a high value on helping children discover the joy of reading and learning, motivating them to achieve and graduate high school. We do this by immersing kids in literacy-rich and culturally-diverse environments where they are safe to grow and prosper.

We have many programs and services designed for babies, kids and teens. To get you started with back to school, here are 10 of our most popular:

Student Research Appointments. Get one-on-one help with school assignments. We offer individual appointments (up to one hour) with students to identify useful resources, learn about research databases or just get started with library research.

Museum and Cultural Passes.  We’ve partnered with nearby museums and cultural institutions to offer admission for library cardholders. Book a pass online up to 30 days in advance and print your confirmation to gain entry to the museum.

24/7 Help with AskUs.  It’s 9 o’clock at night and your child has a research question. Do you know where your librarian is? We do! Get online help from a reference librarian, 24/7.

Teacher sets. Teachers: need books for your classroom? Librarians at any branch can put together a set of books for you to check out.

CultureGrams. If your little one is researching a country or state, this subscription database includes all the expected information such as population, demographics and climate (oh, and it’s free!)

eBooks and Audio eBooks for Kids. Lots of great reads for kids of any age. All available for your tablet, smartphone, laptop or computer.

Library Field Trips. They’re the words kids long to hear: field trip! Educators can schedule classroom tours at a branch library (we have 25 of them!) or the Central Library.

Homework help! The Denver Public Schools’ homework help site is a welcome addition to any parent’s bookmarks.

Customized Book List. Make sure your child reads for fun, too. Our librarians can create a custom reading list based on your child’s interest.

Colorful Coloradans Biographies. Biographies of important Coloradans featuring digitized sources from the Western History collection to provide young researchers with high quality, primary source material for their history projects.

Those are the top 10, but we do offer additional services and resources to support students. To request specific help, please see your favorite librarian.
