New Year's is just around the corner, are you prepared for your New Year's Resolution? Take a look at some places on the web to help you keep some common resolutions, including: Get Into Shape, Quit Smoking, Get a New Job, Learn a Language and Save $$$.
Getting in shape seems to be the most sought after goal of New Year's resolutions. The only problem is, it's really hard to get started (and we don't want to embarrass ourselves trying new things in a strange gym). So what can we do to get our motivation up and our weight down?
Where can I go to workout? Check out Denver Rec Centers! They are a cheaper option to the larger national gyms.
What do I do when I get there? InstructionalFitness.com has some stellar workout tutorial videos to watch before you head in, that way you are prepared before you even set foot in a gym!
What if I don't like weightlifting or running? Try hiking. Jefferson County Open Spaces has 25 parks to choose from, all of differing trail lengths and difficulty, but all of them are beautiful!
Quit smoking. Almost every smoker I've talked to has tried (with varying degrees of success) to quit smoking. Conclusion: it is near impossible to do with out the proper support and supplements. Personally, I would not have been able to quit without using Nicotine patches to take the edge off the craving. Now that I have quit, I think it is the single smartest decision I've ever made in my life, and I'm grateful for all the assistance I received along the way.
Where can I get support? Colorado Quitline offers free telephone counseling to help you on your way to being an ex-smoker.
Can't afford nicotine patches? MyQuitPath from the Colorado Quitline will help you out with a few FREE boxes of patches!
I am fortunate enough to have a job I absolutely love (it's hard to hate working in the library), but many people are not so lucky. If you have been talking about changing jobs for a while, but you haven't made a move on it yet, use this New Year's as the motivation you need to find a better paying position.
Don't know where to go to begin looking? Check out Denver Public Library's list of Local Job Listings.
Not sure how to write a resume or what to do to prepare for an interview? We gotcha covered there too! Check out our Job Guide.
Looking to start a new career? Learning Express Library has practice tests for many jobs that require certifications.
For many people learning a new language is a life long goal. If you want to go to another country, or just want to communicate with a neighbor, the time to learn is now!
Don't know where to begin? Try looking at Mango Languages, a database you have free access to with your Denver Public Library card!
Lastly, everyone seems to be talking about money. We want to make more, spend more and save more. Hopefully getting a better job can help you with the first two, but saving money can be hard! It takes discipline and the ability to keep an eye on a long term goal, which is nearly impossible when the newest Android phone comes out!
Not sure how to begin? Take a look at some blogs with some really useful suggestions on how you can start to save money and get the most out of your paycheck.
