Did you know...
Denverites do a lot of biking to work! And those who use public transportation are saving a lot of money! According to the Alliance for Biking and Walking, in 2009, Denver ranked 9th among the cities with the highest percentage of commuters who bike to work. And a 2012 press release from the American Public Transportation Association stated that commuters in Denver who use public transportation can save an average of $10,118 per year! Those savings can add up fast! (See Tables 1129 and 1124 in the 2013 Statistical Abstract).
After 2008, skiers visiting ski areas dropped a bit nationwide, but by 2011 things began to improve. According to the National Ski Areas Association, 60.5 million skiers visited ski areas in 2011, up from 57.4 million in 2009 and 59.8 million in 2010. (See Table 1256 in the 2013 Statistical Abstract).
Yay! Stat Ab is absolutely FAB!
This is one of the reasons why I love Denver so much! I am proud to either carpool or use public transportation for anywhere I go. Living here can be tough without a car once in a while, but I am glad I don't have to worry about the costs or drama involved with it!
Good for you, Craig! Isn't it nice to have the stats to see (on average) how much you're saving?
