Sing Out, Sister!

Fresh City Life kicks off its Music Series for the fall with two amazing concerts. Entertainer and burlesque emcee Cora Vette hosts our first ever Pie Social. Then Marta Burton brings in a bevy of fantastic women singers for Wink!

First up, this Saturday, September 22:

Cora Vette's Pie Social: Come for the Pie, Stay for the Music!
Showtime 2 p.m.

Denver’s most social girl, Cora Vette, is hosting and making great music, too. Come enjoy one of the great lost traditions of small town America: the pie social. Our friends at Whole Foods Market are bringin’ the pie, so you know it’s gonna be good eats. Pie is served at 2 p.m. and Cora Vette's Chop Shop takes the stage at 2:30 p.m. Fun for all ages! We’ll be meeting on the Acoma Plaza for this community event, and in case of inclement weather, we’ll move to our B2 Conference Center. All free, but registration is encouraged. Please register online or call 720-865-1206.

Fresh City Life keeps the good times flowing with this great concert on Tuesday, September 25:

Wink: Songs with the Flirt Built In
Showtime 7 p.m.

Denver's exciting and diverse female singers come together for this night celebrating the fun, sexy and double-entendred music of the American songbook. Denver Public Library’s Fresh City Life plays host to this special event that highlights fine music and Denver’s most spectacular voices. When you hear Marlene Dietrich and Rosemary Clooney singing Too Old to Cut the Mustard and Mae West crooning A Guy What Takes His Time, you know these ladies are telling two stories: the catchy song you’re listening to and the read-between-the-lines lyrics that might get you banned in Boston. As a matter of fact, West’s 1933 recording of A Guy What Takes His Time was banned in Boston for being too racy! It makes an encore appearance sung by Nancy Stohlman (of the group Kinky Mink) in this delightful concert featuring other cool songbirds: Marta Burton, Cora Vette, Auntie Dee Galloway, Marnie Ward, Elizabeth Caswell-Dyer and Jennifer Adams – backed up by lush and inventive instrumentals. Special thanks to Full Circle Clothing for providing all the costumes, props and set pieces for Wink. A free concert, registration encouraged. Please register online or call 720-865-1206.
