One of the first things you need to consider when you start using social media to advertise your small business is your media strategy. Think about questions like, "How often do I need to post?" "What kinds of posts would appeal to my market?" "How do I get maximum engagement from the people who are following me?" Think about who will be writing the posts and who will be reading them.
Which brings up the next natural point: know your target audience. You cannot interest everyone in what you are selling, so you need to find the people who are interested in your product and let them know you are there to fill that need. Be specific when you are writing your posts; address them to your audience and ask them questions. You will learn quickly how they want to engage with you by reading their responses.
Engagement is key. If you want people to like your page and look forward to reading your posts, you have to interact with your audience. Don't just post a question and let it sit. Respond to any comment on your wall within 24 hours, but always aim for less!
