On Saturday, Oct. 9, at 11 a.m. the Denver Public Library will host its annual Latino Community Service Awards, an event to honor five Latino community members for their leadership and service to the community. Established in 2002, the Latino Community Service Awards recognize Latino leaders who have made a deep and lasting impact on the city and state. The awards presentations are part of the library’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebration and will be held at the Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales Branch Library located at 1498 N. Irving Street.
The 2021 award recipients are
Lena L. Archuleta Community Service Award
- Phillip Benitez Gallegos, Jr.
Eric J. Duran Community Service Award
- Gloria Rubio-Cortés
The library will also induct three members into the César Chávez Leadership Hall of Fame
- Veronica Barela
- Geraldine Irene Gonzales (posthumous inductee)
- Shirley Romero Otero
