Plaza Voices: World Languages in Denver

Naghem S. writes:

Did you know there are over 7,000 spoken languages in the world today? The most popular language in the world is Mandarin Chinese with over 1,200,000,000 speakers worldwide!

Language is living and dynamic, constantly changing and evolving, allowing people to share ideas, express emotions, and gain access to basic needs and necessities. Language is also an expression of one’s personal and social culture. When the culture changes, so does the language.

Denver is a vibrant community, home to people from different backgrounds. In addition to English, the top five spoken languages in Denver are Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, Somali, and Amharic.

We invite you to celebrate our vibrant community by attending the World Languages in Denver program series at the Hampden Branch Library. Saturdays at noon, November 23-December 21, a top language will be highlighted. Learn common greetings and phrases while enjoying regional baked goods, desserts and tea.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Plazas are an open community space where migrants from all over the world connect with people, information, and resources, building Denver’s global community. Come to practice a language, prepare for citizenship, pursue your goals, and create your future. Whatever you’re doing, we can help! Please see our web page for more information.
