"A fair is a veritable smorgasbord, orgasbord, orgasbord!" -- Templeton the Rat, from Charlotte's Web.
Fresh City Life is doing our part to make your county fair experience as rich and replete with nostalgia as possible. Fun carny games. Check. Cool prizes, booby prizes. Check. Food sampling, nibbling, noshing. Check. Not only are we hosting a variety of great local vendors at our booth (stop by to sample great local fare), but we are producing two cooking demos on Saturday, August 11. Yesterday I wrote about our morning demo on chutneys with Chef Amy Hoyt. Now, I'm letting you know that Chef Shellie Kark, of KitchenCue, is bringing her ice cream maker and we are all going to help crank out some delicious, sweet and cool ice cream! Get your own, Templeton!
Get Cranked: Homemade Ice Creams with Chef Shellie Kark
Saturday, August 11, 1 p.m.
Demo Stage in the Kitchen Pavilion, Denver County Fair, National Western Complex, 4655 Humboldt St., Denver 80216
Chef Shellie knows how to turn out scrumptious and easy food even when summer heat keeps you out of the kitchen. Dive into a cooling bowl of ice cream that you made yourself; Chef Shellie shares unique tips for making simple custard-based and non-custard ice creams. Then when she's combined all the ingredients, we'll take turns cranking out a delicious batch of ice cream. This demo wraps up with a sampling of the ice cream (we'll have tasting cups ready to go). Recipes included.
