Did you know that the Central Library has the only Sci-Fi and Fantasy book club in the system? It's pretty great (and not just because it's the only one!). If you want to join a diverse, queer friendly speculative fiction book club, we're the one for you!
We just chose our 2018 books. Here's the list:
January 2 : The Water Knife by Paolo Bacigalupi
February 6 : American War by Omar El Akkad
March 6: Void Star by Zachary Mason
April 3 : The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins
May 1 : Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero
June 5 : The Book of Phoenix by Nnedi Okorafor
July 3 : Autonomous by Annalee Newitz
August 7 : The Queue by Basma Abdel Aziz
September 4 : tor.com novellas (tltles TBD)
October 2 : Bloodprint by Asuma Zehanat Khan
November 6 : Everfair by Nisi Shawl
December 4 : Uprooted by Naomi Novik
Here's our really long list of suggestions!
If you'd like to join us before then, we're reading The Grace of Kings by Ken Liu for November and The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick in December. We meet on the first Tuesday of the month from 6:45-7:45 p.m. in the Burnham Hoyt Book Club Room (on the 1st floor by the Broadway entrance).
Is there a Sci-Fi writers Club.
Should I read the book for February before the February meeting? Or do I read it during the month of Feb to be discussed in the meeting in March? Thanks!
We're going to be talking about American War for the February meeting. Hope you can make it!
