Take Pride, Denver! The Library Has You Covered

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month (LGBT Pride Month) is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan (NY). The Stonewall riots were a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally. The librarians at DPL Central have pulled together wonderful titles which celebrate the LGBT community - visit our display on the south side of the 2nd floor at Central through the month of June. Here's a small sampling, just to whet your appetite!

The Prince of Punk Rock by Jenna Galicki - "a smoking hot rock and roll fantasy where the boy gets everything he ever wanted - a hot wife, a hot boyfriend and a hot band playing sold out venues."

Coming Around: Parenting Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Kids by Anne Dohrenwend - "an insightful and uplifting guide for understanding and coming to terms with a child's sexual orientation."

You Know Me Well by Nina LaCour and David Levithan - "Kate is lost, having just run away from a chance to finally meet the girl she is in love with; Mark is in love with his best friend Ryan. Soon they will know each other better than anyone else."

Exiled for Love: The Journey of an Iranian Queer Activist by Arsham Parsi - "follow Parsi's journey from his first understanding of his sexual orientation to his eventual exile, exploring the reality for LGBT people in Iran."

There Goes the Gayborhood? by Amin Ghaziani - "political gains and social acceptance are allowing gays and lesbians to imagine expansive possibilities for a life beyond the gayborhood."

The American People. Volume 1, Search for My Heart by Larry Kramer - "a sweeping novel which reimagines the history of the world in our own (LGBTQ) image; blustery, hilarious and poignant."

Crooked Letter i: Coming Out in the South - "first person nonfiction narratives that reflect the distinct 'coming out' experiences of a complex cross-section of gay, lesbian, and transgendered Southerners."

Highlighting the prince of punk rock makes DPL look like it's peddling porn. Shame on DPL.
