Funny man and legendary comic Dave Chappelle spent his 41st birthday (August 24th) at Red Rocks Amphitheatre pushing the envelope of comedy and remaining consistent from start to finish. Dave Chappelle's agreeable stage presence and ability to connect with the crowd was immediate! This was my first time seeing him live and his raunchy, comedic, gut-busting style did not disappoint. I have always admired Dave's way of presenting racial stereotypes, politics and pop culture. He touches on subjects that most would consider taboo...and makes these topics hilarious!! In addition, Dave added the classic sounds of hip hop music from the legendary hip hop DJ, Biz Markie as the finale of the show! Dave is known for adding hip hip to his comedy shows like Chappelle's Show and Dave's Block Party!!
The sad tone of the night was Dave expressing to the crowd that he will be moving overseas for an extended period of time. As we witnessed with the Chappelle show Dave Chappelle does not like to put in a box when it comes to his creative comedic style. I admire that Dave is following his heart and performing comedy on his own terms...too many artists these days worry about money and less of what truly makes them happy.
I would like to end with this quote by Dave Chappelle: "The hardest thing to do is to be true to yourself, especially when everybody is watching".
I am bummed I missed him, I have been a fan of him ever since I saw Half baked" (I from Jamaica man, from right near de beach...lord a mercy!") back in college. I would drop anything I was doing to watch his show when it was on Comedy Central. He is well on his way to becoming a comic legend.
I'm sorry you missed him too. This was my first time seeing him live and it was worth the wait and the money!! I agree, with his distinct and one of a kind comic style he will be a legend.
So glad to see that he's doing his thing again!. And on his own
terms. he has to be one of the best at what he does, since, the
main man Richard Pryor!.
I agree, he is one of the best! I'm just sad he will be continuing his comedy outside the United States. Thankfully we have his movies, stand-up and the Chappelle Show :)
Borry to have missed that, too. But good to see the review. Will you blog about UPCOMING events, too?
Dave is awesome! His series were to funny and his stand makes me laugh every time. Jealous that I didn't go but, happy a fellow blogger did. Cool blog
Eazy, I agree, every time I see his stand-up or comedy show I can't help but laugh hysterically like I'm viewing it for the first time! Thank you.
