He's a doctor without borders. Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School is an international gathering; in cities all over the world like minded creatives get together to draw, sketch and paint from live models. It's an amazing, fun and artful time -- and Denver has its own branch. Sponsored by Denver Public Library, Dr. Sketchy Denver is housed at the Rackhouse Pub -- a cool brewery with a very industrial feel that makes for an interesting backdrop for the live models to pose against.
Dr. Sketchy Denver has been ongoing since burlesque queen Vivienne Vavoom founded it in 2007. It quickly won acclaim and was listed as the best art class in town. The event features unusual models like burlesque girls, steampunk characters, drag queens, roller dolls and other amazing Denver personalities.
Every first Sunday of the month folks gather for an early evening of art and laughs and even some tippling, if that's your thing!
Make some art and be a part of the bigger picture. Dr. Sketchy's is back in Denver! Hosted by Denver's beloved burlesque queen, Vivienne Vavoom, this fun evening has everything: costumed models, fun themes, cash bar, great menu items, art-lovin' people. "Started by artist Molly Crabapple in 2005, Dr. Sketchy's is based on Molly's harebrained dream of a 'decadent' art class with fair pay and respect for the models and boozy fun for all, and has branches in over a hundred cities around the globe" -- Dr. Sketchy's Baltimore.
All skill levels welcome, from professional artists to office-meeting doodlers. Bring your favorite drawing supplies and some cash for cocktails and tips for the models. Drinks available in the Dr. Sketchy event space, if you would like to eat as well, come a little early and sample some of the great Rackhouse menu upstairs beforehand. Plus giveaways and prizes for attendees.
All dry mediums are okay, as are dip pens and neat watercolor sets. No oil paints, messy mediums or stinky mediums. Photographers are welcome as long as they do not use flash and are respectful of the other artists and do not block anyone's view. Seating is first come, first serve.
At the Rackhouse Pub, 2875 Blake Street, Sunday, August 6, 5-7:30 p.m. More info.
I'm a local artist that needs a new start, if I can make it to this event I would like to join in, keep me updated, I have another job and I would have to set this time aside for this event.
