This 500-page beauty has 100 recipes and photos for cakes, including the the whipped cream bundt cake, the Double Chocolate Valentine, and the Sicilian Pistachio Cake. I plan to try the Miette's Tomboy, mostly because I like its name. ("Miette" is French for crumbs, and it's a tomboy because it's diminutive and feminine, yet unfinished.)
The recipes are consistently written and broken down into steps, making it easy to find your place during the preparations. Beginning bakers can find plenty of quick and easy recipes, while those with more experience can master the more complex cakes. Rose advises careful measuring of ingredients (preferably with a scale) and strict adherence to the instructions for the best results. And yes, there is a section on adjustments for high-altitude baking.
