Health Insurance Enrollment Information

Open enrollment for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act will begin soon. Here in Colorado, we enroll using a local exchange, Connect for Health Colorado. There are a few dates to be aware of:

  • You can renew, change, or sign up for the first time beginning November 1, 2017, through January 12, 2018.
  • If you were enrolled in a plan in 2017 the benefit year ends on December 31, 2017.

For states using the federal insurance exchange,  https://www.healthcare.gov/, the time for open enrollment has been shortened to November 1, 2017, through December 15, 2017. The website is also offline on Sundays from 12 a.m. to 12 p.m. ET. States that decided to provide their own exchange have a bit more time for enrollment.

Information on the Individual Shared Responsibility Provision from the IRS website:

Executive Order 13765 was issued on January 20, 2017, and directed federal agencies to exercise authority and discretion available to them to reduce potential burden. However, legislative provisions of the ACA are still in force until changed by the Congress, and taxpayers remain obligated to follow the law and pay what they may owe. Taxpayers should continue to file their tax returns as they normally would.

Connect for Health Colorado provides assistance in a number of ways. You can reach them Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and on Saturday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in a few different ways:

  • Phone 855-752-6749 or 303-590-9675.
  • TTY line at 855-346-3432.
  • There is also a live chat feature on their website that is available during normal business hours.
