Miss the Game? Read with the Rockies!

We’re feeling your pain. Spring training just wasn’t the same, not to mention the day that was not Opening Day... The Major League Baseball 2020 season has not been entirely cancelled yet, so hope, like a pennant for the Cubs, springs eternal. Denver Public Library has some ideas for you to get your baseball fix while patiently waiting for a new opening day, because like you, we can’t wait to cheer on our own Colorado Rockies.

These names should be familiar to fans - Ian Desmond and Ryan McMahon - but instead of seeing them with bats and mitts, Denver Public Library is bringing them to you for a very special Colorado Rockies storytime with books! Call into Phone-a-Story at 720-865-8500 for Ian is reading Dragons Love Tacos in English (press 3), and Ryan reading Is Your Mama a Llama? in English (press 8)

Listen now! These stories will only be available on Phone-a-Story until May 6 - but don’t worry, until then, you can listen as many times as you want, any time of the day.

Need some more baseball distraction?

If you’re still missing spring training, pick up Emily Nessen’s The Cactus League. This debut captures a strange desert world that is both exciting and unforgiving, where the most crucial games are the ones played off the field.

Get the kids into the backyard and warming up! Check out 59 Minute Baseball Practice streaming on Kanopy. Need more? Take a look at Play Better Baseball.

Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend traces how Nicole Sherry McFadyen rose through the ranks to become head groundskeeper for the Baltimore Orioles, one of only two women ever to hold that position in the history of Major League Baseball. Also on Kanopy.

Keep up on all the sports insider news with Baseball America and Baseball Digest magazines in digital format!

Gather the family to read or listen to Out of Left Field by Ellen Klages. Katy Gordon is the best pitcher in the neighborhood, but in 1957, she’s not allowed to even try out for Little League. With her knowledge of female players, she fights for her spot on the team.

Longing for that seventh inning stretch? Nothing cheers baseball fans more than a resounding Take Me Out to the Ballgame, with the inimitable Harry Caray!
