Geminis Like Me!

There are so many different authors that speak to any person on any given day. We all have our favorites. I figured in the vein of the zodiac obsessed (aka me), I decided to look into which well-known writers are Geminis like me! Some are authors I have read; others I have not even heard of, but after learning a bit about them I wouldn’t mind picking up a title or two. What can I say, I like to learn new things! Shall we?

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (born May 22, 1859)

This British author brought us the unforgettable character of Sherlock Holmes, and that should be enough for you! Without him, we might not have Benedict Cumberbatch! Sir Arthur has expanded and basically created the detective genre according to me. He also is the mind behind the lesser known character Professor Challenger, who is as hot-tempered as Holmes is cool. Take a look at The Lost World, and see if you think it inspired Jurassic Park… Along with poetry, plays, and science fiction works, I can safely say that he was a literary genius and I am happy to claim him as one of ours!

Thomas Moore (born May 28, 1779)

Mr. Moore shares my birthday so he automatically gets on the list of Gemini authors. This Irish poet, entertainer, and lyricist achieved his status as the Bard of Erin through his lyrics to a very popular song “The Last Rose of Summer,” as well as“The Minstrel Boy.” He was often referred to as Anacreon Moore in many of his works as he made waves around the world regarding his many opinions on war and slavery to name a few. If you’d like to experience his musical legacy, check out A Selection of Irish Melodies with Symphonies and Accompaniments by Sir John Stevenson and Characteristic Words.

Walt Whitman (born May 31, 1819)

Best known for his Leaves of Grass poetry collection, this American poet, essayist, and journalist continues to influence the world around long after his passing. Does “Oh Captain, my Captain!” ring any bells? (It’s an extended metaphor poem written in 1865 by Whitman, about the death of American president Abraham Lincoln and part of Leaves of Grass). His humanist work is thought to bridge the gap between transcendentalism and realism movements. What do you expect from the acclaimed Father of Free verse?

Joyce Meyer (born June 4, 1943)

This charismatic Christian author has taken the world by storm for decades! Through her motivational speeches at her ministry and at least 20 faith-based books ranging on a variety of different topics on bettering your mind, body, and soul, this Gemini has got all her bases covered. Her latest title is Change Your Words, Change Your Life (2014).

Gayle Forman (born June 5, 1970)

Author of If I Stay (now a major motion picture), Ms. Forman has left an impression on the world at large with her character development and fantasy writing. She has also segued into adult fiction with her novel Leave Me these last couple of years. Winning literary awards and taking names, this star doesn’t seem to be planning on burning out any time soon.

Rick Riordan (born June 5, 1954)

Yeah, this guy is a Gemini too. Rick Riordan, a creator of fantasy fiction, has introduced generations to the marvelous world of myth, making it fresh and exciting for a young reader. From Percy Jackson and the Olympians to the Kane Chronicles series, middle grade readers will read anything he writes.. He’s definitely doing his zodiac sign proud.

Sarah Dessen (born June 6, 1970)

Ms. Dessen has been and continues to be one of my favorite authors to date. She was the first author I read whose characters crossed back and forth between nearly a dozen of her titles, all set in the same universe! (For me that was a big deal because it didn’t happen a lot for young adult novels back then.) To this day, if I see a book by her and I haven’t read it, it automatically goes to my checkout bin. On May 30, 2019, it was announced that Netflix had purchased the rights to adapt three of Dessen's books into films: This Lullaby, Along for the Ride, and Once and For All. Good timing for a Gemini!

Anne Frank (born June 12, 1929)

We all know of the heartbreaking story regarding Anne Frank and her infamous diary (Diary of a Young Girl) that gave the world an inside look during a tumultuous time. But did you know that she was a Gemini? Though she didn’t survive to write any additional books, her first and only is definitely one that left an impression.
