Great Book and Movie Pairs for going Back to School

It's that time of year when everyone is heading back to school- from the littles to the bigs. What better way to go to school than to head back with Harry in book or a movie? In fact here's a whole list of books and movies that deal with going back to or being in school!

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Harry starts off every year by getting on the Hogwarts Express and heading back to school, slightly cooler than a yellow bus right?

The Magicians and The Magicians In this dark version of the "Magical School" we follow Quentin Coldwater to Brakebills, a semi-secret school for magic, much grimmer than Hogwarts!

One of us is Lying was author Karen McManus' debut bestseller which reads like a locked-room murder mystery set in The Breakfast Club!

Carrie and Carrie, I mean you couldn't pay me to go back to High School! (Sorry freshmen, hang in there!)

Heathers and Bunny Trigger warning: Heathers is a DARK satire from a different time, it contains a cult of suicide and a fake school shooting, but this biting satire is a cult classic. Bunny has been receiving very good reviews and comparisons to Heathers- to quote Kirkus  Bunny is a "viciously funny bloodbath eviscerating the rarefied world of elite creative writing programs" Sounds good right?

Tina Fey's Mean Girls  was based on Queen Bees and Wannabees by Rosalind Wiseman, a guide to helping girls survive the difficult transition from girl to woman in today's fast-paced techno-obsessed society. Oh man, I will reiterate, I am SO glad to be done with High School!

1995's Clueless was a romantic comedy coming of age story very loosely based upon Jane Austen's Emma, this is a much softer satire than Heathers and introduced the phrase "as if" to popular nomenclature! So, like, watch it!

Phew, that's quite a lot of assignments, buckle down kids, stay in school!
