Don't know about you, but I've been anxiously awaiting the return of the Biennial of the Americas for 2 years! And now that it's here there is so much to do I barely know where to start & wonder if I'll have the energy to attend all the events!
First there are the nightly public symposia. I'm attending Tuesday and Wednesday nights - July 16, Unleashing Human Potential: Reinventing Communities, Business, and Education; July 17, Reinventing Communities and How We Live. But not sure I'm up for the other 2 nights of discussions - July 18, Reinventing Business As Usual; July 19, Reinventing Education for the Global Market, because by Thursday I'm ready to party!
The festivals are what really pull me in. Planning on meeting friends in Civic Center Park on Friday for the "Denver Festival," but gonna try to make them all! And while you're down here checking out all the events stop by the Library and check out some of the, world and local music CDs, you'll be surprised by some of the gems waiting to be checked out!
Oh, and did I even mention the ART coming to town with the Biennial?! Well, there is so much that I can't even begin to list the events, so you'll have to check that out for yourself at denver.org/biennial.
Now you might ask, why a Public event mentioned in a Library Blog? COMMUNITY, plain and simple. This event is about Community, what we do, how we do it and where do we go from here. It's about our Global Community, which includes us, our Local Community. It's about People and Ideas and what possibilities can come from this combination. Don't know about you, but I'm ready for this conversation and for some suggestions if not actual solutions.
If you attend any of the Biennial events, let me know what's on your mind.
Thanks for this write-up. It's going to be great!
I have to agree with you. Tuesday night's symposium has already got me thinking on immigration and education, 2 main topics discussed by the panelists and of great importance to the attendees. If you are not attending any of the symposia but want to know what's being discussed, each night there is a live webcast of the event - http://www.biennialoftheamericas.org/experience/public-symposia . If I hadn't already bought tickets, could be sitting at home in the comfy chair listening!
Thanks for the post. I am really looking forward to the documentary film series being hosted by the Denver Film Society.
Thank you. The film series looks very interesting - http://www.denverfilm.org/filmcenter/detail.aspx?id=25690&FID=73. And if you're up for the Mexico Festival in Civic Center Park on Thursday, July 18, be sure to stay for the screening of Bajo la misma luna (Under the Same Moon) also from the Denver Film Society.
Here's a description of the film from the Denver Film Society - http://www.denverfilm.org/filmcenter/detail.aspx?id=21580.
