Hell House by Richard Matheson - Stephen King commented, “Hell House is the scariest haunted house novel ever written. It looms over the rest the way the mountains loom over the foothills.”

It by Stephen King - This is considered the scariest book of all time by so many.

The Complete Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe - The legend himself expresses his inner demons. Enter the mind of a genius and you'll find madness.

I know it's been debunked, but The Amityville Horror remains one of the scariest books of all time. Part of it is the way it's written - more like reporting. True crime meets horror novel.

I've read it multiple times and can always count on it to give me nightmares.

How bout a True Crime book? The Stranger Beside Me by Ann Rule or Cannibal: The Case of Albert Fish by Mel Heimer?

Sometimes the scariest stories are those that involve real monsters that lurk in the night...

That is true a real live monster is scarier than any fictional character in any book. Especially evil humans that do the unspeakable

He didn't write any novels, but surely HP Lovecraft deserves an honorable mention? I recommend 'Rats in the Walls', 'The Colour out of Space', and 'Call of Cthulhu'.

Love it, these sound amazing, I will make sure to give it a read and recommend them to customers/ staff.

I read "OUT" by the Japanese writer Natsuo Kirino-terrifying, brutal and also, at times, a black comedy

Dark comedy- is a very cool genre and it's sounds like "OUT" delivers, I'm pretty sure this is a must read, so I will check it out, thanks for the recommendation.
