Based on the Book

Back in August, we let you know about some upcoming movies based on classic books, but every day we're coming across more book-to-film adaptations. At least a dozen will open within the next couple of months! Here are the trailers for a few of the upcoming adaptations we can't wait to see.

If you want to read the book before you head out to the theater, click on the titles below to check availability or to place a hold request in our online catalog.

Now Playing:

Cloud Atlas, based on the book Cloud Atlas, by David Mitchell

Starring Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, and Jim Broadbent

Opening in November:

Lincoln, based on the book Team of Rivals, by Doris Kearns Goodwin

Starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, and David Strathairn

Killing Them Softly, based on the book Cogan's Trade, by George V. Higgins

Starring Brad Pitt, James Gandolfini, and Sam Rockwell

Silver Linings Playbook, based on the book The Silver Linings Playbook, by Matthew Quick

Starring Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, and Robert De Niro

Hitchcock, based on the book Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, by Stephen Rebello (available through interlibrary loan)

Starring Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, and Scarlett Johansson

And there are more! Alex Cross is in theaters now, and we'll see Anna Karenina, Life of Pi, Les Misérables, The Hobbit, Jack Reacher, and On the Road before the end of the year. Personally, I'm looking forward to the Wachowskis' adaptation of Mitchell's incredibly complicated Cloud Atlas. What about you? What films are you excited to see this fall?
