Serene and Volcanic

Pablo Neruda

"Today, I dedicate this to you, you are long like the body of Chile, delicate  like an anise flower,  and in every branch you bear witness to our indelible springtimes... you guard the sun, the earth, the violets in your slender shadow when you sleep. And in this way, every morning  you give me life."  - Pablo Neruda from the poem "Every Day, Matilde"

Such tangible and raw beauty lifts off the pages of Pablo Neruda's poetry. How such words can then take form in the mind and senses to create a world within your world. His poems allow the soul to escape to exotic places of body and earth and allows the soul to come back to the not so exotic places of home. Truly an inspiration for love and lover, the serene place of mind, and volcanic places of the heart.

City Tales: New Orleans

new orleans mon amour

The Crescent City. The Big Easy.  Jazz, beignets and vampires.  Hurricane Katrina.

What comes to mind when you think of New Orleans? These days it's hard not to think of the ravage left behind by Hurricane Katrina. Nearly six years later, Nola has still not fully recovered. The hurricane and its aftermath has forever altered this beloved Louisiana city, a fact evident in each one of these titles.

R.E.M. Live

Summer concert season is in full swing and I'm feeling nostalgic thinking about my favorite concerts of summers past.

There is nothing like seeing your favorite bands outdoors during the summer. The pre-show tailgating. The crazy weather.  The beach balls being volleyed through the crowd. I don't catch many shows these days so join me as I reminisce about some of my favorite annual summer escapades.

How to Buy a New Computer

Buying a new computer can be overwhelming, but a little research can go a long way.

The first step is to think about what you will be using your computer for. If you will only be surfing the internet and checking your email, a very basic machine will probably suit your needs, but if you are going to be doing a lot of gaming or video editing, you may need something more powerful.

THINGS TO CONSIDER:

Performance

  • Hard drive capacity for storage
  • RAM for speed
  • CPU/Processor for multi tasking

Breaking Up with Netflix?

Netflix logo

Are you one of the Netflix customers affected by the recent rate increase? Instead of switching to another movie-by-mail service, consider all the free films the library offers!

In addition to our DVDs, the library also has a collection of eFlicks that can stream on your computer or mobile device.

I prefer the library to Netflix because:
