Review

I fell in love with this book so much so that I had to buy my own personal copy. Snow Flower depicts the daily life of Lily, a young girl in 19th century Chinese countryside as she grows up. In hopes of securing a more prosperous marriage, Lily is bound in friendship to Snow Flower. The Confucian proverb, "Only through pain will you have beauty. Only through suffering will you have peace" is an apt summary for the lives of Lily and Snow Flower. If you liked this book, try The Binding Chair by Kathryn Harrison, Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden, Empress by Shan Sa, Empress Orchid by Anchee Min.
