Banyan has been building trees out of scrap metal since his father disappeared. He has to; the real trees have all been devoured by locusts. Plus, he has to find a way to make a living in this cut-throat, dusty world. But everything changes when he comes across a photograph of his father tied to a tree. A real tree. So Banyan sets off to find his father in this supposed Promised Land--but he is not the only person intent on finding the last remaining trees on earth, and in order to reach the trees first, Banyan is forced to confront his own past and the secrets locked in his memory.
