This is the true story of how the five Best Picture nominees from 1967 came to be. I expected a separate section for each film but the chronological approach allows for so much more detail. There was a surprising amount of cross-pollination between the writers, producers, directors and stars of The Graduate, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, Bonnie and Clyde, In the Heat of the Night and Dr. Doolittle. How did Dr. Doolittle get in there, you ask? It's portrayed here as a last bastion of the old Hollywood. This is a well-crafted mix of character study, history of the evolution of filmmaking, and, let's face it, gossip! Be sure to read about the party at Jane Fonda's house.
