Maisie Dobbs is not your traditional mystery heroine. Taking place in the early 20th century when the British class system was turned on its ear by the wars Maisie begins her life as a greengrocers daughter and an upstairs maid  but by the end of the war she is an Oxford educated nurse and private detective. Maisie herself is also not your usual female detective, she is neither fierce nor bumbling, her stories are not filled with romance or humor. These stories are just well written mysteries that touch on the human experience in a refreshing and eye-opening manner. My only regret is that it took me this long to pick up these tales, bravo Ms. Winspear bravo.
