Review

I would recommend this movie just for the swimming pool alone, which is huge and donut-shaped. This is where Juliette (Kristin Scott Thomas) and her sister swim as they get reacquainted after Juliette's release from a 15-year prison sentence.  The former doctor is starting over in Nancy, France, living with Lea and her wary, protective husband and two adopted Vietnamese daughters.  We learn what Juliette's crime was in increments:  first, that it was murder; and later, who the victim was; and finally, why.  It's the first movie for French writer/director Philippe Claudel and I hope to see more from him.  With English subtitles.
