by Neil Gaiman
I like Neil Gaiman because of his ability to describe a perfectly normal, sometimes boring world, twist it slightly, and reveal the magic and terror hidden in plain sight. If you are not familiar with this author's work, Fragile Things is a great place to start. This collection of short stories and poems includes homages to some of Gaiman's favorite authors and films, including H.P. Lovecraft, C.S. Lewis, and The Matirx. A favorite of mine is "The Problem of Susan," which explores life after Narnia for the sister NOT chosen by Aslan. Wow.
Gaiman narrates his own work in the audio version, and does a wonderful job of it. Fans may enjoy his introduction, in which he relates the history of each piece in the collection.
