Ben Wolf just found out that he has a year to live. He wants his last year, his senior year, to be as normal as possible, so he tells no one, but makes some plans to make this year different. Instead of running track, he'll be the best 123-pound football player ever. He'll reform the town drunk. His civics project will involve naming a street in all-white Trout, Idaho after Malcolm X. He'll be brave enough to talk to Dallas Suzuki, the most beautiful girl in his world--and maybe she'll even talk back. But keeping a secret from his parents, his brother, his coach, turns out to be harder than Ben thought it would be, especially when he finds out that everyone he cares about has secrets, too.
