History

The Stonewall riots were a series of violent conflicts between lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender persons and police officers in New York City. Rioting began on Friday, June 27, 1969 when police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in Greenwich Village. Patrons of the club resisted arrest and three days of rioting ensued. Stonewall is generally considered a turning point for the modern gay rights movement worldwide. Pride is a celebration of the anniversary of Stonewall.

PrideFest will be held June 27-28 in Denver, Colorado. PrideFest honors the culture and heritage of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in the State of Colorado. The annual event draws more than 170,000 spectators to downtown Denver and is presented by the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of Colorado. The event consists of a parade, a rally and a festival.
