On Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 2 p.m., Jim Gill, award-winning musician and author, is bringing his Family Room Tour to Denver Public Library. He will strum energetic rhythms on his banjo while everyone claps, sings, dances and even sneezes along to the silly and inspiring musical games that he creates. This interactive concert is free to the public and suitable for kid’s birth to three years old. The concert is presented by Denver Public Library and Mountain States Toyota.

The Denver Public Library is launching a new service called “DPL CONNECT,” a book bike complete with shelves, display areas and a wi-fi hot spot. The goal of the tricked-out trike is to bring library services out to the community and promote upcoming programs and events. Throughout the summer and early fall, DPL CONNECT will be connecting with the public at festivals, farmer’s markets and parks.

As part of his Summer of Reading Neighborhood Challenge, Mayor Michael B. Hancock will host an ice cream social at the Ford-Warren Branch Library on Friday, July 26, at 11:30 a.m. Ford-Warren won the Mayor’s competition to increase Summer of Reading signups during the first two weeks of the program by a landslide, increasing their registration from last year by over 80%.

On Friday, June 28, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., the Denver Public Library and Elitch Gardens Theme & Water Park are celebrating Summer of Reading with a book drive and special discounted park admission. Guests who bring a donation of a new children’s book to the Reading Rocket Bookmobile to the entrance of Elitch Gardens will receive $12 off Main Gate admission – Elitch Gardens best discount offered – to enjoy a full day of rides and entertainment on June 28. Families will also be able to sign-up for the Summer of Reading program at the Bookmobile parked near Elitch Gardens’ Front Gate, as well as on Main Street by the Big Wheel.
