Let Us Help You Succeed at National History Day!

Silver Dollar Tabor and President RooseveltThe expert librarians in the Reference Department are ready and willing to teach you the tricks of our trade. We’ll reveal the treasures that are hidden at the Central Library. This fall, we’re launching a new service that’s ideal for high-striving high school students who are participating in National History Day. You can make an appointment with one of us a week in advance, and we’ll spend an hour with you focusing on your individual research goals. We’ll do our homework so we’re prepared to show you exactly what you need. We’ll take you way beyond Google and Wikipedia to those elusive primary source materials that are essential for a competitive NHD submission. We’ll help you hone your critical thinking skills so you can separate the wheat from the chaff.

Chief OurayNot only are we wizards with electronic resources, but we’re experienced with the old school research methods that will lead you to material that’s just not on the Internet. Our resources include dozens of subscription databases (free to you) with premium content; thousands of reference books, bound periodicals, microfilm and microfiche on every topic imaginable; and two million Federal government documents. Through our relationships with other libraries, we can provide access to over a billion books and other library materials. We’re pros at finding the proverbial needle in the vast haystack that those library collections represent. Combine all that with centuries of collective experience, and you’ve got a winning formula for productive research.

All you have to do is fill out a form to request an appointment. Tell us as much as you can about your project, including format and time constraints. We’ll match you up with a librarian and find a time that’s mutually convenient. From there, the sky’s the limit.

Appointment Services at the Denver Public Library strives to provide access to the most current and appropriate resources available to our customers. This requires preparation time by our librarians, and in turn we ask that you:

  • Notify us if you need to cancel. Just call 720-865-1363 as soon as you know you can’t make it, and we’ll reschedule.
  • Be punctual. If you’re more than 15 minutes late, we may request that you reschedule your appointment.

Our mission is to help you learn effective strategies for locating information and resources to accomplish your research goals. We cannot help you write, edit, or proofread your document.
