Poetry of Inspiring Places
"'This place is the noblest thing I have ever seen': The Poetry of Inspiring Places." From cities to villages, from homes to wildernesses, from the real to the remembered to the imaginary and in every period of recorded history, poets have responded to places that inspire them, that awe them, that astound or terrify them, and that give them solace. In this course we will spend our first meeting reading and discussing some of the greatest poems of place, from Homer to the present; in the second meeting participants will have the opportunity to present their own poems of place for discussion by the group. Instructor David Rothman teaches at the University of Colorado at Boulder and Lighthouse Writers Workshop in Denver. His recent volumes of poetry include Part of the Darkness (Entasis Press) and The Book of Catapults (White Violet Press). To register, go to denverlibrary.org or call 720.865.1206.
