Cooking Demos: Food on Film
Images of food, eating and culinary celebrations have always been a major source of symbolism in cinema. As in real life, food on film can conjure feelings of home, hearth, nurturance, greed, overindulgence and sensuality. Chef Shellie Kark (kitchencue.com) takes on three great films that include iconic scenes of food and eating; we’ll show you excerpts from several foodie films, then our chef will share the techniques for bringing the best cinematic food to your kitchen. Recipes and samples included.
Ramen: from Tampopo (Japanese)
Tampopo is about a quest for perfection and fellowship through the sharing of food. And like Tampopo’s leading lady, come to this demo and you’ll learn to make a perfect bowl of noodles. Chef Kark will not only create a wonderful broth loaded with veggies, meats and flavor, she’ll also demonstrate how to make noodles worthy of a great ramen.
