Images of food, eating and culinary celebrations have always been a major source of symbolism in cinema. As in real life, food on film can conjure feelings of home, hearth, nurturance, greed, overindulgence and sensuality. Chef Shellie Kark (kitchencue.com) takes on three great films that include iconic scenes of food and eating; we’ll show you excerpts from several foodie films, then our chef will share the techniques for bringing the best cinematic food to your kitchen. Recipes and samples included.

Strudel: from Breakfast at Tiffany’s (German)
How can a film about a lithe, gamine woman, always on the go, be about food? And yet the title, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, underscores the heart of this film – finding comfort where you can. For the heroine, Holly Golightly, it is enjoying a pastry and coffee in an evening gown while window shopping at Tiffany & Co. Grab a slice of Chef Kark’s amazing apple strudel and you’ll feel like a stroll past Tiffany’s windows, too!
