August 5, 1962 - Marilyn Monroe is found dead in her Los Angeles apartment, the circumstances of which are still shrouded in mystery. Born on June 1, 1926, Norma Jean Mortenson's transformation into Marilyn Monroe was not without tragedy. Today we honor her short but stellar life.

Shockingly, Marilyn never believed she was beautiful and struggled with her perceived appearance. She was married 3 times - at 16 to James Dougherty, then to baseball legend Joe DiMaggio, and finally to playwright Arthur Miller. In addition to her autobiography, My Story, her personal writings have also been recently published as Fragments: Poems, Intimate Notes, Letters.
