From the National Gallery website: "During the last fifteen years of his life, Henri Matisse developed his final artistic triumph by ‘cutting into color.’ The drama, scale, and innovation of Matisse's rare and fragile papiers coupes (paper cutouts) remain without precedent or parallel. His technique involved the freehand cutting of colored papers into beautiful shapes, which he then pinned loosely to the white studio walls, later adjusting, recutting, combining, and recombining them to his satisfaction.
We are launching our first ever Pie Social, and Denver’s most social girl, Cora Vette is hosting and making great music, too. Come enjoy one of the great lost traditions of small town America: the pie social. Our friends at Whole Foods Market are bringin’ the pie, so you know it’s gonna be good eats. Pie is served at 2 p.m. and Cora Vette and the Vinyl Tops take the stage at 2:30 p.m. Fun for all ages! We’ll be meeting on the Acoma Plaza for this fun community event, and in the case of inclement weather, we’ll move to our B2 Conference Center. All free, but registration is encouraged.
Fresh City Life is pitching in to help our friends at Whole Foods Market Denver put on a big show. This street fair is a wonderful opportunity to "get out amongst 'em." Dr. Seth Tucker leads this two-part workshop on writing poetry. The first session will be focused on getting your thoughts down on paper – and the poetic elements that change words to art. Return for the second evening and talk about bringing an editor’s eye to your writing. Students will share written work and assist each other through critiques. Seth’s poetry manuscript, “Mormon Boy,” won the 2011 Elixir Press Editor’s Poetry Prize, and was published in early 2012. Learn more about Seth at lighthousewriters.org. Tuesdays, August 7 and 21, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
