Virtual Read-Out For Banned Books Week

Virtual Read-Out

Lewd? Obscene? Scandalous? Perhaps, but that may be part of the reason I have loved so many of the infamous books that show up year after year on the American Library Association’s Frequently Banned and Challenged Books lists. This year I get to share my love of these titles with the world as Banned Books Week, one of the more glorious weeks in books, is upon us and this year we want you to share your favorite.

Smiley: One Branch One Story

Summer of Reading

We had another wonderful Summer of Reading at the Smiley Branch Library this year! We filled the days with amazing programs, craft classes, and even some baby yoga! Mr. Dana was lucky enough to interview two of our most super readers Katelynn and Skyler (in addition to a few special guest stars) about their Summer of Reading adventures. Katelynn and Skyler have attended all of our Summer of Reading activities at Smiley for many years, so they have become something of resident SOR experts.

Weekly Pajama Jam Read-Aloud

The Twits

Should read-alouds stop when children reach grade school? Absolutely not!

Join us in the Central Children’s Library for Ms. Gigi’s weekly chapter book read-aloud. Titles are most appropriate for 2nd-5th graders, but all ages are welcome, and we will serve hot cocoa and snacks. Wear your PJ’s, bring your favorite blanket or pillow or stuffie, and get set to get lost in a great book!

Where: DPL Central Children’s Library Pavilion
When: Every Tuesday, from 6-7 p.m.
