In March of this year, stage director and producer, Brenda Cook Ritenour, launched OFF THE SHELF, a play-reading series designed to breathe life into plays that are produced rarely, if ever, in Denver. This month, Ritenour teams up with ArtSkool, (Fresh City Life's newest community event centered on the visual and performing arts of Denver) to bring you two exciting events!
Our Country's Good
by Timberlake Wertenbaker Central Library, Level B2 Conference Center
Monday, June 6, 6-8 p.m.
Fresh City Life has been presenting a monthly game night for a year or so; it's been perking along under the name WordNerds and drawing happy crowds to Mad Wine and Novo Coffee (our partners in this gathering for game players).
Smart singles will be heading down to MadWine & Novo Coffee tonight for our singles night: STAG. This social club is guided by Denver's enchanting author, burlesque artist and hostess -- Vivienne VaVoom. STAG offers Denver singles a chance to connect with other interesting people in a relaxed setting. Vivienne always brings a little magic to each gathering and tonight will be no exception. One drink minimum please. Time and info.
Are you ready for some fun this week? We think so.
Tonight, we've got two films: No Country for Old Men at 6 p.m. in the B2 Conference Center. And for KnitFlix, we're showing an end of the school year special -- The Breakfast Club. This film starts at 5:30 p.m., Level 1 Fresh City Lounge.
On Thursday, Craftinatrix Trish Tilly turns a few materials and supplies into gorgeous, modern Pom Pom Flowers. We've saved a seat for Elvis and we're pretty sure he won't make it, so sign up and join Trish for this fun DIY.
Little Edie's style lives on in fashion, decor and crafting.
"This is the best thing to wear for today, you understand. Because I don't like women in skirts and the best thing is to wear pantyhose or some pants under a short skirt, I think. Then you have the pants under the skirt and then you can pull the stockings up over the pants underneath the skirt. And you can always take off the skirt and use it as a cape. So I think this is the best costume for today." -- Little Edie, Grey Gardens
ArtSkool debuts with a workshop that highlights one of the first art mediums: Mud!
1. Existing at or from the beginning of time, primeval -- the primordial oceans
2. (esp. of a state or quality) Basic and fundamental -- the primordial needs of the masses
While it's unlikely that the first sea creature to give land a try looked back at its tracks and noted the artistic pattern they made in the mud -- clay was and remains one of our primordial materials for making art.
