It seems fitting that a fibers technique so extravagant and exaggerated as this would carry the name hyperbolic crochet. The name is based not only on the over-the-top quality of these sculptures, but also the hyperbolic geometry that informs the shapes and designs of this craft.

There are numerous options for all the crafters out there who want to exercise their creativity before watching the big game this weekend! All of these events are happening on Saturday, February 4 as part of our Make & Take Studio Series:

Crocheting is like meditating. One pretty knot leads into another, building a creation of your own for yourself or as a gift. Soon one row is complete and then another. Soon a few minutes have passed, then an hour. Each knot is like a breath, a dance of fingers that create a whimsical design, a skirt, a scarf, something made from structure into love. I've lost myself in blankets, hats, and sweaters and the end result was a better frame of mind.

It turns out that making granny squares can be a little addictive. They're fast and fun to crochet -- so the squares start to pile up quickly. There are endless color and yarn weight combinations -- so they can be simple or complex, and can incorporate easy or challenging color combinations. And crocheting is very portable -- so it's easy to throw a project in a bag and head out the door.
