The Fresh City Life My Branch Colorado Authors Series delves into Colorado history this week with Joyce Lohse, presenting Mining for the Real Baby Doe Tabor on Sunday, December 4 at 2 p.m. at Schlessman.

Lohse has written biographies of various figures in Colorado history. In her latest book, Baby Doe Tabor: Matchless Silver Queen, award-winning Centennial author, Joyce B. Lohse, gives a biographical viewpoint of Colorado's favorite female mining legend.

Coloradans Who Saved America: Veterans Remembered

Fairmount Heritage Foundation

Fresh City Life My Branch and the Fairmount Heritage Foundation present Coloradans Who Saved America: Veterans Remembered on Sunday, November 6 at 2:00 p.m. at the Schlessman Family Branch.

Learn about the rich military history of Denver's two oldest cemeteries, Fairmount and Riverside, going all the way back to the Civil War, including eight Medal of Honor recipients, the Spanish-American War, and Nisei. Bring an unopened toiletry item to be donated to the Denver Veteran's Hospital for veterans in need. Presented by Fairmount Heritage Foundation volunteers Garry & Joan O'Hara.

On Saturday, October 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Schlessman, learn all about the 123-acre urban wilderness in our own back yard, Bluff Lake Nature Center! Bluff Lake is a nonprofit agency that manages a unique urban wildlife and outdoor classroom in northeast Denver. It is home to an abundance of animals and native plants, which thrive in a variety of habitats.

Phyllis J. Perry has written over 70 books for adults and young people. Among these are Speaking Ill of the Dead: Jerks in Colorado History and It Happened in Rocky Mountain National Park. Speaking Ill of the Dead is a delightfully wicked look at the badly behaved characters who shaped the history of Colorado.
