Requests and Holds
Watch and listen to a brief Place a Hold tutorial!
Vacation Hold Suspension Put your holds on hold while you go out of town.
You may place holds for checked out materials by telephone at 720-865-1111, by visiting the Library, or from our online catalog. Learn how to place a hold.
Holds Limitations
Please be aware that there are some limitations on placing holds:
- Reference materials and magazines cannot be requested
- Items you request that are currently checked out may not necessarily be returned by the due date stated in the catalog
- Limit of 30 hold requests pending on your library card account at one time
- Featured Title items are not holdable.
Holds Notification
- The Library will attempt to notify you by phone or email when your requested items are ready for pickup. You may also check the status of holds and other library card information by calling 720-865-1133 (24 hours), or by using the My Library Card feature online (both require your library card number)
- Call or visit any Denver Public Library location or click here to sign up for email notification of holds.
- Items will be kept on the hold shelf for 7 days from the date they are received
- You must use the same library card to request and check out your requested item
- You may suspend your holds for a specific period of time while you are on vacation.
Requesting Items Not Owned by DPL
If you are unable to locate the material you need in our online catalog, you may request it from another library system or the Library may borrow or purchase it. Try Prospector or WorldCat, or request that the Library purchase or borrow the item. Read more about the Request a Title service.
