Are you ready for some great new local music? I hope so, because we've just finished reviewing the second round of submissions for Volume, our local music site. We received over 60 submissions this time around, and have chosen the albums that will be used. We're working with the musicians on the paperwork, and on our technical end to get the music loaded. We'll be releasing new albums, every Tuesday, as we're ready (again, DRM- and $$$-free to DPL cardholders!).
Submissions for the first round of our Volume Denver project close next Thursday, May 15. If you're a musician and you've already gotten your submissions in, thanks so much - we've received a lot of really great stuff, and are so excited to get this off the ground. If you haven't submitted yet, get it in by the end of next Thursday so we can consider you for this round.
Do you have a smartphone or tablet? Use it to access DPL’s resources? If so, you’re not alone. In the last year and a half, visits to our site from mobile devices have more than quadrupled. In January 2011 around 3% of all visitors came from a mobile device. Last month it was over 15%, and it’s been a steady rise.
As we watch these patterns, we are continually looking to make the mobile experience as positive as possible for you, our customers. For example, on the mobile version of our site we’ve recently added the ability to immediately find the closest branch to you. So if you’re out and about and need to find a library close by, point your phone’s browser to denverlibrary.org and then click on "Locations."

Once you get to the Reviews starting page, there are a number of ways you can find great reviews. We recommend starting by browsing by type of material - look for the most recent reviews, highest DPL-rated items, and most discussed - or browse by genre. If you're looking for something more specific, try a keyword search on the left side of the page.
Over the last few months, public computers at the Central Library have been moving to the CTC, a centralized location on the fourth floor where we have technology experts ready to provide training and support. If you've visited us recently, you've probably noticed we've gotten a bit busier on the fourth floor. In fact, the number of people using computers in the CTC has more than tripled in the last year. In December alone, we had over 12,000 uses of the computers on the fourth floor.
These numbers will continue to climb, as we moved the final 22 public computers to the CTC in early January, bringing us up to 94 total. Later this year we will be adding even more computers, and filling out our two computer training classrooms, thanks to participation in the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program. Each step brings the CTC closer to the vision of a full Community Technology Center. If you haven't already, stop by and check us out.
The plastic sheeting on Level 4 was finally pulled down this morning, and the new Community Technology Center is officially up and running. It's been a long time coming, and we're not finished yet, but we are excited to kick off fall in our new space.
We're starting relatively small with only 22 computers available at open today, but will be gradually adding public access computers, and will have nearly 100 available by the end of the year. All of these computers offer Office 2007 software as well as Internet access. Also coming soon are:

The mobile site is still in early testing phases, so for now you'll have to manually put that URL into your phone (and bookmark it or save it to your home screen!). Once the site has its legs under it a little, we'll start automatically pointing phones to the mobile site by default.
